Playing Santa with pets

The holiday season and birthdays are great occasions to give someone a new pet. Figures show that per sales and pet supply sales figures see a rise during the last month of the year and many people become the proud and happy owner of a new cat or dog.

The most popular dogs that will be received by their new owners during the holiday season are cats and dogs. The average lifespan of these animals lies around ten years and enthusiastic givers often forget that taking on the care of an animal, no matter how cute they are, is o huge responsibility. Knowing for sure that the receiver of the gift will be happy with the new pet (and really wants a pet to take care of) is imperative. Basically animals just don't make good gifts unless someone really wants a new pet.

People who want to give a pet as a present should first consult the receiver of the gift and then it is wise to get a pet via the Humane Society in their area. Homeless pets get dumped especially in the holidays and there is nothing better than giving a homeless pet a new home. Making sure that the new owner has the time, money and intention to care well for their new pet is more important than anything else. This way making a change in someone's life turns into making a big change for an animal too.
