MSPCA play Santa to pets
The MSPCA-Angell has come up with yet a new way to collect money for pets in need. The Pet Care Assistance Fund is a fund that specifically provides medical care for those people who cannot afford medical treatment for their pets. As with people, the cost of medical treatments and procedures for animals can be extremely expensive. Something like a brain scan for a dog can cost around $1200.
People can buy personalized pet ornaments for the holiday season and prices start around $15. By buying these ornaments people can enjoy seeing their own pet's image or name on a custom-made tree ornament and do something for other less fortunate pet owners at the same time. The ornaments made by the MSPCA will be on show and for sale at the Prudential Center from Dec. 7. There will be "canine and kitty" Christmas trees decorated with these ornaments and they will feature local residents' pets.
All the proceeds from the ornament sale will go directly to the Pet Care Assistance Fund, so that people in financial need can have their animals treated as quickly as possible. Often time is a very important factor in the treatments of animals and there are also plenty or rescued and neglected animals that need urgent medical care that has to be paid for. In 2005 the MSPCA-Angell fund was able to pay out to people and to extend more than $300,000 worth of veterinary care to 775 pet owners who needed financial aid to have their pet treated.
If you are a pet owner yourself, or an animal lover, buying an ornament can be a great way to help out fellow pet-owners and their animals this holiday season.
