Pet Tracking

There are pet tracking systems for cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, rabbits, and birds - any pet that can get lost or just likes to wander about. These are designed to for locating lost pets.

The latest technology available to track pets is GSM/ GPS. With the miniaturization of GPS receivers and mobile phone modems, pets can carry devices in their collars that allow them to be tracked by the owner.

Basically the pet's collar has two devices:

A GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver - this device uses satellites to estimate position of the pet. Usually these GPS receivers can estimate the pet's location to 15 meters or less.

A GSM (Global System for Mobile Technology) modem. More or less, this device is a cell phone for you pet that can transmit your pet's location to your mobile handset (cell phone) through SMS technology

GPS / GSM pet tracking devices are very reliable as long as the pet is in an area that has GSM cellular service. GPS pet tracking is the most reliable pet tracking available and therefore is the most expensive. Another pet tracking technology that is becoming more and more available now is Pet GPS Chips. This is a very expensive technology too.

There are various ways of accessing the information that the devices from the lost pet send out. These include through home phone, Internet, and software installed on the computer.
